The gallery of celebrities in the museum was started in the 1980’s when the museum received several upper-class presentable models made in exclusive series from the Moscow automobile factory “ZiL”. The first memorial automobile was the wrecked Rolls – Royce “Silver Shadow” of L.Brezhnev that came into the collection at the beginning of the 1980’s from the headquarters of the Moscow suburban military district. In the 1930’s – 1940’s, the garages of the Kremlin possessed quite a number of luxurious upper-class foreign cars made mostly in the USA. J.Stalin’s favourite ones were the Packard’s limousines, therefore they were represented in the biggest number. In the middle of the 1930’s, the production of the first upper-class limousines ZiS-101 was started in the Moscow car-building factory named after Stalin. The Soviet government started using the local production. Shortly before the World War II, A. Hitler presented Stalin with several Mercedes Benz compressor models. During the war, the Kremlin received several automobiles from the Allied (the USA). After the defeat of the Fascist Germany a great number of different upper-class automobiles (including Packard Super Eight of the former king of Romania) as well as unique sport models came to the Soviet Union. They were given as awards to the highest members of the USSR government for different contributions to the country, e.g. Foreign Minister V.Molotov received Rolls – Royce “Wraith”. In the end of the 1940’s, the trophy automobiles were quite depreciated. In the state of the Cold War it was necessary to prove to the world that the USSR is able to produce its own luxury class automobiles. Therefore the USSR government used the Soviet production, e.g. ZiS – 110 on the basis of which the first Soviet armoured limousine ZiS – 115S was made for the needs of Stalin. In the end of the 1950’s, new upper-class presentable automobiles appeared - ZiL – 111, GAZ-13 “Chaika”. In 1964 L.Brezhnev became the General Secretary of Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Soviet Union (CPSU) and the Kremlin garages were rapidly supplemented with expensive and luxurious foreign cars. They mostly came as presents to L.Brezhnev from leaders of other countries. In the beginnings of the 1980’s, his collection contained more than 20 interesting luxury class automobiles: Mercedes Benz, Cadillac, Lincoln, Jaguar, Rolls – Royce etc. At present the museum has 3 automobiles of this unique collection: Rolls – Royce Silver Shadow, Lincoln Continental Town Car presented by R.Nikson, president of the USA, during L.Brezhnev’s visit in the USA in 1973 and Mercedes Benz 280 SEL presented by E.Honeker, leader of GDR in 1980. Before the collapse of the USSR, Latvia Antique Automobile Club (AAK) and Riga Motor Museum managed to gather a unique collection of the Soviet government automobiles.
